  1. COURSE DESCRIPTION 

This course provides an overview of the history of architecture focusing on the eras from the stone age up to Gothic architecture. While the main studied developments are from the history of architecture in Europe, the course also discusses historical architecture in the middle east and the far east to provide context for future understanding of theories and principles of architecture in later courses.

  1. COURSE MAIN OBJECTIVE 

The main and core objectives of the course are, first, to construct a chronological order of historical, theoretical, social, religious, cultural, political, and architectural events and concepts during each period with a clear articulation of the early relationship between humans and architecture. The course aims to develop the ability to understand the key architectural themes across civilisations and make informed comparisons between them.
